The Head Start programs for Cumberland County/Burkesville, Lake Cumberland, Taylor County/Campbellsville and McCreary County are now taking applications for eligible 3 and 4 year olds for the 2019-2020 school year.
Please read the attached PDF flyers for more, print and fill out the appropriate application form below, and submit to your application to the nearest Head Start location.
The following information is needed for applications:

About Head Start
Established in 1965, Head Start promotes school readiness for children, ages three to five, in low-income families by offering educational, nutritional, health, social and other services. Head Start programs promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families.
Programs actively engage parents in their children's learning and help them in making progress toward their educational, literacy and employment goals. Significant emphasis is placed on the involvement of parents in the administration of local Head Start programs.
Children attend school Monday through Thursday from approximately 8 am to 2 pm. Head Start follows the local county school calendar and does not have classes during inclement weather. Transportation is available but limited to certain areas. For more transportation information, contact the center nearest you.
Head Start welcomes children with disabilities and special needs.

An Interagency Meeting was held at the Lake Cumberland Community Action Agency on July 17, 2019. The gathering was an opportunity for multiple agencies to share reports on current and future projects. The objective of these meetings is to develop cooperation and effective use of resources among the various agencies.
Agencies participating were the Department for Community Based Services, Lake Cumberland Community Action Agency (LCCAA), LCCAA Health Benefit Assistor, LCCAA Head Start, LCCAA Opioid Consortium, East Kentucky Employment Program, Lake Cumberland Area Development District Workforce Development, and Adanta.
DCBS - Department for Community Based Services
The DCBS provides state-wide family support; child care; child and adult protection; eligibility determinations for Medicaid and food benefits; and administration of an energy cost-assistance program. The department administers the state foster care and adoption systems and recruits and trains parents to care for the state's children who are waiting for a permanent home.
LCCAA Lake Cumberland Community Action Agency
LCCAA is a private, non-profit agency serving the ten-county Lake Cumberland area that operates a comprehensive array of programs to open educational/training and employment opportunities, remove obstacles, coordinate private sector groups and mobilize community resources to effectively assist low-income people achieve greater economic self-sufficiency.
Child Protective Services
The Division of Child Care supports quality child care programs and plans that promote improvement and expansion of child care services and resources statewide.
East Ky Employment Program
The Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program, Inc. (EKCEP) administers Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs in 23 mountain counties and also manages the Kentucky Career Center JobSight network of workforce centers, which provide access to more than a dozen programs and services for jobseekers and employers under one roof.
LCADD Workforce Development, Lake Cumberland Area Development District
The Lake Cumberland Area Development District is a regional planning and development agency based in Russell Springs, Kentucky, that serves Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, McCreary, Pulaski, Russell, Taylor and Wayne counties.
Adanta
Adanta is a private, non-profit organization providing community-based mental health; substance abuse; developmental and intellectual disability; alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention; and sexual assault resource services.

The Kentucky Career Center - Lincoln Trial in conjunction with the American Legion, The DAV, The VFW, The Vietnam Veterans Association, WQXE, and WULF will be sponsoring a Hire a Patriot Event. Transitioning personnel, veterans, national guard, reservists and their dependents looking for career and employment opportunities are encouraged to attend.
This hiring event will be held July 25, 2019, at the American Legion Post 113, 1251 Ring Road in Elizabethtown, Kentucky from 10 am to 3 pm. This event is open exclusively to veterans and dependent family members from 10 am - 12:30 pm (PLEASE BRING PROOF OF MILITARY SERVICE). Open to the general public from 12:30 pm - 3 pm.

The dream of becoming a professional pilot is not beyond the reach of Kentucky's youth. A new program in Adair County is helping students get a head start on just such a career. Adair County High School's Air and Space Academy is a unique program that can spark interest and give a head start in this very in-demand profession. The academy teaches students principles of flight, engineering, aeronautics, and allows for hands-on learning opportunities like building planes and flying on a computer flight simulator.
After only two years of the program, more than one student has earned their private pilot's license, and one student is currently pursuing a degree in Professional Flight at Eastern Kentucky University. EKU offers the only professional aviation degree program in Kentucky and is among a small number of universities authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration to certify graduates as eligible for Airline Transport Pilot certificate. The demand for commercial pilots and aviation support staff is predicted to be very high in the coming years.

U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) announced up to 350 new jobs will be created over the next 10 years in McCreary County. The U.S. Army has selected Fibrotex USA, in partnership with Outdoor Ventures Corporation (OVC), to produce next-generation state-of-the-art camouflage netting for the military over the next decade in Stearns, Kentucky.
"We have the best workforce in the country and OVC will soon make room next door for the hundreds of new jobs that our people have earned through hard work and dedication for this new military contract in McCreary County," said Congressman Rogers. "I take great pride in knowing that our people are using their talents to make products for our warfighters and our allied forces."

“Once the students can understand programming on a basic level, then they can expand upon it to the ways it is used in the industry,” Dr. Vincent Scovetta, associate professor of computer science at Campbellsville University, said.
Scovetta was one of the professors helping with Campbellsville University’s Inaugural Summer Honors Academic Robotic Event or “Bot Camp,” during which 30 top achieving high school juniors explored the fields of computer science and robotics.
The week-long experiential learning event was established to offer students the opportunity to dive into the world of robotics while also placing the study of computer science at Campbellsville University as an option in their future.
