An Expungement Fair will be held in Casey County on September 20, 2018, from 5-7 P.M. at the Casey County Community and Education Center, 1 Pettyjohn Street, Liberty, Kentucky. There is no cost to attend this event.
Expungement is the legal process where an arrest, charge or conviction is completely removed from your record. In Kentucky, if you do not ask for expungement, the arrest, charge or conviction will stay on your criminal history. This means that any time an employer does a background check, the conviction will show up. This can hurt job opportunities, school or educational opportunities and even some government assistance programs. Expungement gives you a clean slate.

Secretary of the Education Workforce Development Cabinet Derrick Ramsey was on hand Tuesday, August 28 to help break ground for construction of the Lake Cumberland Regional College & Workforce Center in Russell County.
The center is being constructed on the grounds of Russell County High School but will be a resource for the entire region. The center is expected to serve 2,215 high school students and 620 adults in all five primary Kentucky Workforce Investment Board sectors — advanced manufacturing, healthcare, technology, construction trades, and transportation.
Partnerships with Lindsey Wilson College, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, Eastern Kentucky University and Western Kentucky University will allow the center to provide associate’s to bachelor’s (or A to B) programs, where students work toward an associate’s degree in high school and enroll in an institution of higher learning to complete a four-year degree. Certification programs will also be offered, and adults will have access to programs in the evening.
The center will also continue to foster and develop apprenticeship programs with local industries, like one that currently exists with Dr. Schneider Automotive, that offer flexible performance-based credit by allowing students to spend time during the school day receiving on-the-job training.
Also in attendance for the celebration were current and past Russell County school officials, students, local government representatives, area business and civic leaders as well as special guest State Senator Max Wise.

PAE and the Kentucky Career Center - Cumberlands are looking to fill 100 available job positions through government contract work. The positions are for research analysts and data entry operators in the PAE location in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
Representatives with the Kentucky Career Center says by helping both the employer and the potential employees find each other, they help with unemployment in the Cumberland region. "So it is just a good, it is a win-win for everybody. To get people out and get them employed and help the employer," says Shirlene Taylor, Business Services Representative for Kentucky Career Center.
PAE and the Kentucky Career Center held another job fair at the Williamsburg Civic Center in Williamsburg on August 23rd.

Apprenticeship offers on the job training supplemented with technical classroom instruction. Apprentices work under the supervision of qualified journeyworkers to develop their chosen trade or skill and learn the techniques, materials, and equipment associated with that trade.
The Kentucky Registered Apprenticeship Summit will be held at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville September 10 – 12. School leaders and career counselors, business owners and their HR representatives, government officials, parents and other interested parties are encouraged to attend the entire Summit. Students and adults interested in becoming a Registered Apprentice should attend the Career Fair Portion of the event on days two and three.

The Kentucky Career Center - Cumberlands is hosting a Job Fair at the Center for Rural Development on August 11, 2018, from 10 AM - 2 PM. This will be a great opportunity to talk to regional companies actively looking for employees. High demand jobs in our region include Healthcare, Transportation, Manufacturing, Food Service, Call Center, Clerical, and Information Technology.
This fair is presented in partnership with the Cumberlands Workforce Development Area, the Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corporation, the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, and the Somerset-Pulaski County Development Foundation.

Fidelity bond offers no-cost insurance policy to encourage hiring
FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 17, 2018) – The Kentucky Career Center is now offering a $5,000 six-month fidelity bond at no cost to employers or job seekers through a U.S. Department of Labor program that encourages the hiring of hard-to-place applicants in eight categories, such as individuals with criminal records or those with poor credit records.
The Federal Bonding Program (FBP) allows employers to insure their business against theft, forgery, larceny or embezzlement if they hire at-risk job seekers who cannot get private coverage. The bond covers the first six months of employment and has no deductible so there is no out-of-pocket expense for businesses that participate. Employers also can purchase continued coverage if the worker demonstrates job honesty.
