Census Jobs

The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting thousands of people across the country to assist with the 2020 Census count. The Bureau is hiring for a variety of temporary jobs, including census takers, recruiting assistants, office staff, and supervisory staff.

Positions for the 2020 Census are located throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number, and be a U.S. citizen.

Russell County Business and Industry Symposium

The Russell County Chamber of Commerce working in concert with the Russell County Industrial Development Authority is pleased to announce that on May 14, 2019, at 9:00 AM, CT at the Lake Cumberland State Resort Park, there will be a one-day “Business and Industry Symposium.” 

Representatives from federal, state, and regional organizations will be on hand to present to Russell County businesses, industries, banking institutions, civic organizations, entrepreneurs and local governments the various programs they have to offer to enhance business startups, expansions, industrial growth, and marketing techniques. Attendees will have the opportunity to have a one-on-one dialog with a panelist of experts. The event will be sponsored by East Kentucky Power and South Kentucky RECC.  

This event will be a wonderful opportunity to learn first-hand that there is federal, state, and regional organizations willing to help grow and expand your interest in Russell County.

There is no fee for the symposium, and lunch will be provided, however, it is required to RSVP/register online at https://tinyurl.com/rcsymposium

The keynote luncheon speaker will be Dave Delaney, author of New Business Networking and acclaimed keynote speaker on the topics of business networking, corporate communication, and social media marketing. His presentations are humorous, educational and engaging. Dave has provided keynote presentations for companies, conferences, and organizations like Google, LinkedIn, The UPS Store, American Marketing Association, SXSW Interactive, Hubspot Inbound Conference, HealthStream, HCA, and many more.

The Center for Rural Development, in partnership with the KCTCS schools, invites you to continue your education by attending one or more of these Certified Fiber Optics (CFO) training courses, to help you become the most qualified in your field!

  • CFO Technician: May 13-15
  • CFO Specialist (Splicing): May 16-17
  • CFO Specialist (Outside Plant): May 20-21

We have funding assistance available to pay for 80% of each certification you would like to take. You may register for multiple certifications, provided you have not previously taken them. There are only eight seats left in each class so act fast!

Who is eligible?
If you are an unemployed or under-employed individual who lives in one of the following Kentucky counties, you are eligible to apply for Certified Fiber Optics training:

Bell, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Laurel, Leslie, Letcher, McCreary, Perry, Pulaski, and Whitley counties

Commissioner of the Department of Workforce Investment Ray Leathers addressing the Kentucky Career Center - Cumberlands Board of Directors

Kentucky Department of Workforce Investment Commissioner Ray Leathers addressed the Cumberlands Workforce Development Board of Directors at the April 16 meeting in Russell Springs. Leathers delivered a presentation outlining key points of the state's strategic plan for workforce development.

Leathers said the Kentucky Workforce Innovation Board (KWIB) strategic plan goals include increasing employer engagement, increasing educational attainments and completions, increasing Kentucky's workforce participation rate and aligning the resources of partners across the state.

Molly is studying at the University of Kentucky to prepare for medical school, but she didn't know what her career path might be until she recieved a little help and direction from the Kentucky Career Center's Youth Services.  Listen to Molly's story:
