Dr. Michael Yoder, Commissioner of the Education & Labor Cabinet, recently joined the Cumberlands Workforce Development Board for its June 16, 2026, meeting. Among his updates, Dr. Yoder stated that the SWATT (Statewide Workforce and Talent Team) initiative is well underway, with the current focus on state-local integration in a practical and effective way.
Workforce Pell will expand the current Pell Grant program beginning July 1, and the Kentucky Community & Technical College System already has several training programs that are expected to be eligible for Workforce Pell Grants. Dr. Yoder also praised the Somerset Career Center for its outstanding work, saying it serves as a great example of how to improve workforce development efforts across the state.
